KPL) The Lao government has agreed to build a new memorial for late President Souphanouvong at the centre of Souphanouvong University campus, Luang Prabang province.
A contract was signed here on 11 October between representatives of the Ministry of Education and Vietnamese Patthana Vichitsilp Construction Company, in the presence of Education Minister Somkot Mangnomek, Vietnamese contractor, Nguyen Nam Moc and officials concerned.
Funded by the Lao government, the construction project of the statue of late PresidentSouphanouvong costs 1.9 billion kip (US$ 200,000), and is expected to start the work on 15 October.
The project will continue until early 2008, according to the contract.
The statue, 3.6 metres in the sitting position with a book in his left hand while the right hand points to the book to explain the Party’s guideline in front of people.
